Music Man Jr. Auditions

Southgate Community Players Young Peoples’ Theater are holding auditions for our second show of the 2023-24 season, Music Man JR.! Auditions will take place on Sunday, November 5th from 2 – 4pm and Monday, November 6th from 6 – 8pm. In-person registration will begin 15 minutes prior to the audition time. Auditions will be at the Corner Playhouse, 12671 Dix-Toledo in Southgate.

 

There’s trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian in this adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway classic. Master showman Harold Hill is in town and he’s got “seventy-six trombones” in tow. Can upright, uptight Marian, the town librarian, resist his powerful allure? The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize. The catch? He doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, whose belief in Harold’s power just might help him succeed in the end in spite of himself.

 

The Music Man JR. is the perfect vehicle for your young performer, a toe-tapping crowd-pleaser that features a soaring soprano ingénue part and a leading role for a charismatic actor, as well as plenty of

roles for kids of every level!

 

Audition requirements:

● Ages 5-18 at the time of auditions.

● Children are asked to prepare a minute long song excerpt from their favorite show, using a karaoke track (no a capella, no background voices).

● Preparing a song excerpt from the show is not required to be considered for a leading role, but is highly encouraged.

 

Show dates:

● February 16-18th, 2023

Rehearsal dates:

● Tuesdays 6-8PM, Thursdays 6-8PM, Saturdays 10AM-1PM.

● Rehearsals between auditions and the end of the year (Nov. 9th – Dec. 20th) will be on a case by case basis taking your child’s conflicts into account to maximize the time they are available. The

holiday season is busy! We want to make sure they can still participate.

● Rehearsals starting the first week of January (Jan. 4th) Will be all-call Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays with the stated above times, unless notified otherwise.

● Please make sure to bring your child’s conflicts to auditions in order for us to provide the above accommodation.
